7 Things to Keep in Puja Room for Good Luck

In Hindu culture, the Puja room is considered as a respected space, which has an immense spiritual significance and serves as a place for family members to gather for prayer, meditation and cultivation of a peaceful environment. This sacred place is regarded as a medium for the people of the family to connect with their spiritual essence and pray for the blessings of the divine. Therefore, it is an essential requirement to maintain the purity of the Puja room and keep positivity for inviting an enormous amount of energy and good fortune to the lives of the people. To enhance the spiritual potential and get the taste of success and prosperity, several sacred items are required to be placed in the Puja room. Here the essence of the presence of seven sacred things is discussed below:

1. Brass Idols and Sacred Symbols

In the Hindu religion, sacred symbols are a sign of spiritual significance and hold a deep meaning. The word “Om” often scripted in brass, is determined as the primitive sound of the Universe. It represents the concept of flowing spiritual energy through existing things. The chanting of the word Om creates a vibration for the alignment of body and mind with spirit and it leads to the discovery of internal peace and harmony. In addition, there is another sacred symbol as “Swastika” is considered a symbol of auspiciousness, prosperity and happiness. The four principal directions are represented by the four arms of Swastika and it depicts balance and harmony in the universe. For getting positive energy and removing negativity, the picture of Swastika is also drawn on the brass items used for worshipping.

Brass idols of Mata Laxmi and Lord Ganesh

The brass idols in Hindu traditions are considered as representations of spiritual energy and are placed as a center of attraction in the puja room. In Hindu culture, each deity is empowered with a specific essential requirement. Lord Ganesh, the elephant-headed God, is worshipped for removing all obstacles and getting happiness and prosperity. Again, the idols of Ganesh and Saraswati are worshipped to gain good education, creativity and intellectual property in life. A brass idol of Maa Laxmi in Hindu rituals is worshipped to attract wealth and provide the family financial stability. In addition, the brass idol of lord Hanuman is also worshipped for getting both physical and mental power. Like that, each brass idol of each deity in the Hindu religion has a specific significance and is therefore worshipped in the Puja room.

2. Fresh Flowers and Incense

The term Puja in Hindu rituals is determined from the combination of two words, i.e. the word “Pu”, which means the Pushp or flowers and the other word is “Ja”, which means chanting. Therefore, the combination of these words defines the significance of flowers in Hindu worship. Flowers are considered as a symbol of purity and beauty and are used as a pathway to please the deities and help in creating a peaceful atmosphere in the family. Offering fresh and fragrant flowers is considered as a medium of expression of respect and gratitude to the divine power. The aromatic fragrance and vibrant color of flowers generate a peaceful and serene environment, which is favourable for meditation and worshipping.

Wooden Pooja Mandir

In Hindu rituals, the burning of incense during worshipping is considered as a medium of purification of the air, creating a calm mentality and generation of a ground for effective communication with the divine. The ascending movement of the smoke released from the burning of incense is believed as a path of prayer and intentions to the divine power. There are different categories of incense that are used for different deities and can enhance moods and energies and helps in increasing the spiritual ambiance of the puja room.

3. Holy Scriptures

The holy/sacred scriptures are determined as archives of divine wisdom and guidance in Hindu culture. There are epics like Ramayan, and and Mahabharat used as the description for attaining betterment in life through spiritual practice. The Bhagwat Gita is a sacred inscription of the teaching of Lord Krishna to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra in Mahabharat. The Bhagavad Gita gained its significance in guiding life by maintaining a balance between mental and physical activities through the enhancement of a spiritual practice. Again, the Ramayan, an ancient epic that describes the life and adventure of Lord Rama, provide a moral teaching to millions of devotees. Therefore, the regular reading of these sacred scriptures is considered as a potential pathway for getting the blessings and making inner transform. A deep understanding of the texts of these scriptures with dedication and determination helps the devotees cultivate virtues like compassion and humility and leads to spiritual enlightenment.

4. Brass Diya

In Hindu rituals, the significance of light is considered as a symbol of knowledge, wisdom and dispelling the darkness. In the context of spiritual thoughts, light is represented as enlightenment and brightening of minds. As the darkness is linked with ignorance and confusion, the light is associated with clarity and positivity. Therefore, burning a brass diya or lamp in the puja room signifies the invitation of divine power to create positive energy and remove negativity. In addition, the burning of a lamp is also considered as the method of creation of a sacred atmosphere suitable for meditation and prayer. The fragrance of oil or ghee used in the lamp purifies the surrounding air and enriches the spiritual ambience making a peaceful atmosphere in the Puja room.

5. Gangajal

Gangajal is considered as an essential item in worshipping the Hindu culture. In Indian mythology, the river Ganga is considered as a sacred river and its water is believed to possess purifying and healing properties. The utilization of Gangajal in rituals is regarded as a method of erasing the sins of anyone and granting blessings for spiritual enhancement. The Gangajal is sprinkled on devotees and in the other parts of the home for blessings. The Tulsi plant is considered as a sacred plant and holds great significance in Hindu traditions because of its description in Hindu mythology. It has a close relationship with Lord Vishnu, one of the principal deities of Hindu mythology. It is believed that the emergence of Tulsi took place from the tears of Goddess Laxmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu and hence, the symbol of purity and devotion can be expected in Tulsi. The use of Tulsi in the puja essentials can enhance good health and purify air in the surrounding atmosphere. In addition, worshipping Tulsi with devotion can attract wealth and financial stability to the family and remove the negativity. The ringing of the bell prior to the commencement of prayer generates a harmonious vibration, which assists in the invitation of divine power and purification of the worshipping space. In addition, it also creates a motivation among the devotees to foster dedication in offering prayer during the worshipping.
